Entretanto, o Presidente dos Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, acusou o Irão de colocar em risco a estabilidade da navegação internacional e classificou o ataque como uma violação directa dos compromissos assumidos durante as negociações de paz.
As autoridades militares norte-americanas afirmaram ainda ter intercetado outros drones que se aproximavam da rota marítima internacional.
A situação levou a Organização Marítima Internacional a rever medidas de segurança para as embarcações que atravessam a região, enquanto várias companhias de transporte marítimo acompanham com preocupação a evolução do conflito devido ao risco de perturbações numa das principais rotas de exportação mundial de petróleo.
