O Conselho Municipal da Cidade de Maputo anunciou que as obras de saneamento urbano em curso na capital moçambicana deverão ser concluídas até ao próximo mês de Maio, apesar dos atrasos registados desde o início da execução do projecto.
A informação foi avançada pelo vereador de Infra-estruturas e Salubridade, João Munguambe, durante uma conferência de imprensa realizada na cidade de Maputo. Segundo o responsável, os trabalhos fazem parte de um conjunto de intervenções estruturantes destinadas a melhorar o sistema de drenagem e saneamento urbano, reduzindo os problemas recorrentes de inundações e elevando as condições sanitárias da capital.
O projecto de saneamento urbano, avaliado em cerca de 16 milhões de dólares, é financiado pelo Banco Mundial em parceria com o Governo moçambicano. As obras arrancaram em Novembro de 2023, mas enfrentaram vários constrangimentos que acabaram por provocar atrasos no calendário inicialmente previsto.
Apesar das dificuldades, o município garante que tem procurado minimizar os impactos para os cidadãos, sobretudo no que diz respeito à circulação rodoviária. À medida que os troços são concluídos, as equipas procedem à pavimentação e reabertura das vias ao tráfego.
De acordo com o vereador, um dos troços que ainda concentra trabalhos situa-se entre o Hospital de Chamanculo e a Avenida Acordos de Lusaka, zona onde os trabalhos deverão provocar limitações na circulação por cerca de 30 dias.
Paralelamente, decorre também o projecto de drenagem da baixa da cidade, iniciado em Abril de 2025 e com duração estimada de 18 meses. Actualmente, o grau de execução ronda os 35%, com intervenções em algumas das principais avenidas da capital, incluindo Josina Machel, Eduardo Mondlane, Julius Nyerere, Vladimir Lenine, Samora Machel, Filipe Samuel Magaia e Guerra Popular.
Segundo João Munguambe, estas obras representam uma intervenção sem precedentes na cidade, destacando que, cerca de cinquenta anos após a independência nacional, Maputo recebe pela primeira vez um investimento desta dimensão no sistema de drenagem e saneamento.
O objectivo principal é resolver problemas históricos de acumulação de água na baixa da cidade durante a época chuvosa, situação que frequentemente afecta a mobilidade urbana, as actividades comerciais e a segurança sanitária da população.
As autoridades municipais reconhecem, contudo, que a coexistência de vários projectos de infra-estruturas na cidade exige um esforço adicional de coordenação para reduzir os transtornos aos munícipes. Por isso, o município pretende reforçar a comunicação e a sinalização nas zonas de intervenção, permitindo que os cidadãos se preparem melhor para eventuais bloqueios de vias e optem por rotas alternativas.
Com a conclusão prevista para Maio, o município espera que as novas infra-estruturas contribuam para tornar a cidade mais resiliente às chuvas intensas e melhorar significativamente a mobilidade e as condições de vida na capital moçambicana. _vozafricano
