O Fundo Soberano de Moçambique (FSM) registou um crescimento de 6,5% nos primeiros três meses de gestão pelo Banco de Moçambique (BdM), atingindo quase 100,8 milhões de euros, segundo dados compilados pela Agência Lusa. O aumento deve-se às primeiras receitas provenientes da exploração de gás natural, destinadas à capitalização do fundo.
O arranque do FSM ocorreu em 10 de Dezembro de 2025, quando o Governo entregou ao BdM 94,8 milhões de euros provenientes da exploração de gás. Posteriormente, a 6 de Janeiro de 2026, uma nova entrada de capital de 5,3 milhões de euros reforçou os recursos disponíveis para investimento.
De acordo com o BdM, o FSM é uma carteira de ativos financeiros gerida segundo princípios e regras legais, com o objetivo de assegurar que as receitas do gás contribuam para o desenvolvimento económico e social do país, além de servir como pilar de estabilização do Orçamento do Estado e acumulação de riqueza para as futuras gerações.
O Parlamento moçambicano aprovou a criação do FSM em 15 de Dezembro de 2023, estipulando que 40% das receitas anuais do gás natural serão canalizadas para o fundo, podendo atingir 5,1 milhões de euros por ano na década de 2040.
O Fundo Monetário Internacional (FMI), em relatório de 19 de Fevereiro de 2026, sublinhou que reformas de governação são essenciais para proteger a gestão do FSM e garantir uso eficiente e transparente das receitas provenientes de recursos naturais.
Moçambique conta atualmente com três megaprojetos de gás natural na bacia do Rovuma, liderados pela TotalEnergies, ExxonMobil e Eni, com capacidade combinada de produção que poderá transformar significativamente a economia do país nos próximos anos.
